Tottenham went to the Stadium of Light with a lot of
promise, and were able to secure all three points after coming from behind in
the second half.
The Black Cats made just from the side that won against
Manchester City, with O’Shea replacing left-back Danny Rose, while Spurs made a
change to their central defense, with Steven Caulker and Michael Dawson coming
in for Jan Vertonghen and William Gallas.
The opening of the game was a tight affair with neither of
the sides being able to take the control of the game, but as the game went on
it was the visitors from London who started dominating the proceedings.
Sebastian Larsson’s free-kick from the left found Steven
Fletcher at the near post who got the better of some Spurs defenders and
flicked the ball across to O’Shea who was totally unmarked and rolled the ball
into the empty Spurs goal. The goal was indeed a bit undeserved.
Tottenham did start the second half well and got deservingly
back into the game with an own goal from Carlos Javier Cuellar. An in-swinging
cross from Kyle Walker ended in the back of the net deflecting from Cuellar after
deflecting with team-mate Craig Gardner.
Just two minutes later, Aaron Lennon completed the comeback
for the London side with an excellent goal.
Tottenham had a great chance to get into a comfortable
position just ten minutes later. Bale made an amazing run from his own half
down the left and found Defoe who forced an amazing save out of Mignolet,
although the England international would understand that he could have easily
done better.
